Thirty-two year-old man, Ojo Owoeye, was on Friday, arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for molesting and impregnating a sixteen-year-old secondary school student in the state and was charged with one count charge of sexual abuse.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Inspector Johnson Okunade, the police prosecuter, alleged that the suspect committed the offence sometime in May In Ado-Ekiti, where he sexually abused and impregnated the pupil.
“The offence contravenes Sction 4 of the Ekiti State Gender-based Violence (Prohibition) Law, 2011,” he stated.
Mr. Ojo Abioye, the defence counsel, told the court that his client would take responsibility for the pregnancy and prayed the court to grant him bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Aderopo Adegboye, granted the defendant bail in the sum of Twenty thousand Naira and two sureties in like sum. The case was adjournrd till September 18 for further hearing.
