The Architects’ Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON) has asked the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in Osun State, to reposition and enhance the study of architecture.
The President of ARCON, Oladipo Ajayi, who led the members of the council to OAU, stated that it had been observed that the professional program of Architecture was in need of urgent intervention.
He asked the management of the university to do everything possible to ensure quick upgrade of the department into faculty status.
“We are eager to have the faculty as soon as possible, as this would further enhance both the university and the profession at large,” ARCON President stated.
According to Ajayi, ARCON among other things was established to raise the educational standard, the practice as well as registering and deregistering.
He advised the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Eyitayo Ogunbodede, to look into the shortfall of lecturers in the department and the need for the institution to adopt Architects Projects Registration Number, which would help to monitor all building pojects across the country.
The university VC, in his response, pledged support for ARCON and stated that the issue of upgrading the department to a faculty status was dependent on the National Universities Commission (NUC).
He tasked ARCON to assist as the university was already in the process of doing a total overhaul of its curricular.
