FUTA Emerges Best University In SW Nigeria

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), has emerged as the best university in South West Nigeria, while the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Fuwape, emerged the best VC in the zone at the 2nd edition of the South West Education Award and Lecture which was held at the Redeemer’s University in Osun State.


Also, the Vice Chancellor of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Prof. Michael Ologunde and the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Dr. Dayo Ladipe, emerged the VC and Rector of the year at the award ceremony.


Prof. Olubunmi Akinola of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) won the prize of the Outstanding Lecturer of the year.



Report revealed that the Chairman of the Award, Honey Olawale said the award was to celebrate Nigeria’s great achievers in the education sector across the South West region.


According to him, FUTA was selected for its ground-breaking achievements and consistent academic excellence of its students and staff.


Prof. Christian Happi, Director of Research, Innovations and Partnership, Redeemers University, while delivering the Lecture titled, “Curbing Emerging Infectious Diseases on the Africa Contintnt”, condemmed the over-reliance of African countries on International agencies for the treatment of infectious diseases.


Also, the Outstanding Student of the Year was awarded to Salako Folashade of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).
