The Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, according to reports, may shut down the state-owned Polytechnic in Yola over alleged discovery of arms in the institution’s mosque.

Report revealed that a non-academic staff of the institution had last week drawn the attention of the Department of State Services (DSS) to the incident without informing the security department of the polytechnic.

Further investigations revealed that the arms were relocated when the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the institution discovered and reported to the Rector, Prof. Ibrahim Umar.

It was also learnt that the management of the school had to shut the mosque as tension was gathering in the school campus, to ensure that the issue did not get to the general public.

However, the Rector admitted the closure of the mosque but denied the discovery of arms inside it.

“It is true that the mosque inside the Polytechnic in Yola has been closed for now. This is because the school management discovered that some people were coming from outside the school to sleep inside the mosque,” the Rector stated.
