Prof. Gideon Okedayo, a lecturer at the Ondo State University of Science and Tecnology (OSUSTECH), Okitipupa, Ondo State, has been reportedly abducted by unknown gunmen.
It was repoted that the incident occurred around 6.30pm when the university don was travelling to Igara in Kogi State over the weekend. The kidnappers, as at the time of report, are yet to contact the family of the victim.
Mr. Dayo Temola, Chairman of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Staff Unions in OSUSTECH, confirmed the incident, asking the state police command and the Ondo State Government to assist in rescuing the victim.
“With utmost shock and disbelief that we received the news of reported kidnapping of Prof. Gideon Okedayo. He is a thoroughbred academics who has been and still contributing to the growth of education in Nigeria and beyond. We hereby call on the government and relevant security agencies to fast-track his unconditional release,” he stated.
The Police Public Relations officer of the state, Femi Joseph, when contacted, confirmed the incident but stated that, “it did not happen within our jurisdiction.”
