Gunmen, suspected to be armed robbers, invaded another students’ hostel of the University of Ibadan (UI) in the early hours of Sunday.
Findings made available to schoolworld revealed that the gunmen robbed the Abdulsalami Abubakar postgraduate hall of residence occupied by both female and male graduate students of the institution.
A postgraduate student of the university, told journalists that the armed robbers invaded the hostel at about 2am and knocked down the door leading to the hostel which contains four buildings, two of which accommodate the male students and ther two for the female students.
“They had a struggle entering into the hostel because the security in New Hall is actually tight. The bang we heard when the door was axed down already told us that something was coming for us but we didn’t know what it was and we were wondering where the securities and potters were at this time,” the student stated.
Mr. Tunji Oladejo, Director of Public Communication of the institution, confirmed the incident, saying that the university was not immuned in the prevailing security situation in the country.
“I can confirm to you that the story is true. We have reported the matter to the police. They did their best. Let me also say that it is Abdulsalami Abubakar hall. It is a postgraduate hostel for both male and female students.
“Those who perpetrated the act knew the terrain and did not go to the male hostel. We are still working and the investigation is still ongoing. UI is not immuned to what is happening in Nigeria, the security situation in the country. We don’t know how they came. The security did their best. They injured some students.
