IBB’s 78th Birthday Essay Competition Organisers Yet To Reward Winners


Organisers of the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida’s (IBB) 78th Birthday Essay Competition are yet to reward those that emerged as winners from a quiz six weeks after the competition.

Some Nigerian students had participated in the essay competition which comes with a grand prize of N100,000 up for grabs in four different segments.

According to one of the winners, on July 20th, an essay competition was announced through Facebook in honour of the former Head of State and on the 17th of August, the organiser, Earl Yemi Saka, announced the four winners via the social madia platform.

He recalled that Mr. Saka posted a short video of General Babangida going over the entries on the 23rd of August, adding that IBB commended the writers and asked that their works be published online for public consumption.

“I think you should make sure that these essays are placed on websites so that others will be able to access the efforts that these young children are putting in because these are good,” IBB stated.

Speaking on the delay in the payment of the prize money, the organiser stated that, “First of all, many charitable activities were outlined towards the celebration of the 78th Birthday of IBB which execution commenced on Monday, Aug. 19, 2019.

“Second of all, these projects are executed in order of priority as deemed fit by the Press Office. The winners will corroborate my claims as I contacted them few days ago for their bank details,” Saka stated.
