The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Enugu Chapter, has called for the immediate removal of the state’s Commissioner of Police, Suleiman Balarabe, for lack od capacity to secure the state. This is coming after the recent security challenges in the state.
In a statement by Comrade Darlington Ugwuegbe, Enugu State Chairman of NANS, the students stated that they were worried that Enugu State which is known for its peaceful and secure nature has of recent witnessed some strange and sudden security lapses since the development of the current CP.
They disclosed that their investigations revealed that Balarabe has not served as CP before his deployment to the state, stressing the sudden security lapses in the state could not be unconnected with his lack od experience in his present assignment.
NANS, therefore, gave the Federal Government and the Inspector General of Police a two-week ultimatum to redeploy the CP or they will embark on a peaceful protest to drive home their demands.
They also added by saying that their investigations further revealed that the CP’s deployment to Enugu State, prior to the last general election, was facilated by chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, who were only interested in the removal of the immediate past CP for political reasons.
They maintained that the call for Balarabe’s removal was borne out of their concern for the safety of lives and property of the citizens of Enugu state.
