A female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Osun state, Ayomikun Ademorayo, on Sunday died after she reportedly washed her hair with an insecticide, Sniper, to get rid of lice.
Colleagues of the late corps member told newsmen that Ayomikun discovered lice in her hair while preparing to make a new hairdo in preparation for her coming birthday, adding that she applied the substance to her hair on Sunday afternoon and became unconscious almost immediately.
Ayomokun, who is an orphan, however, died on the way to the hospital.
The deceased, who was a prominent member of the Osun state NYSC volleyball team, it was learnt, lost her mother in June this year, while her father had died several years ago. Until her death, she was the breadwinner of the family and still had younger ones in secondary school.
According to an eyewitness who lives in the same premises with the deceased, Ayomikun, who is a graduate of the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), became unscious shortly after applying the substance to her hair and was rushed to a private hospital in Oshogbo.
“Ayomikun loose her hair in order to make a new style for her birthday, which is in ten days’ time. She was preparing for July 18. She had bought a new cloth and bag for the purpose. She later discovered that lice had invested her hair.
“So, on Sunday afternoon, she just applied Sniper to her hair to eliminate the lice. Shortly after she did that, Ayomikun lost consciousness and was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Oshogbo. But she died before she could get to the hospital,” the eye witness stated.
Reacting to the sad occurrence, Funmilayo Okundaye, Public Relations Officer of Osun state NYSC, stated she is yet to get the details, but confirmed the death of the female corps member.
Ayomokin has since been buried at the Christian Association of Nigeria Cemetery, Ede, Osun state.
