Ondo State Gov. Urges Army To Prosecute Soldiers Who Gang-Raped AAUA Undergraduate Student

The Executive Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has urged the Nigeria Army to prosecute soldiers who were arrested over the alleged gang-rape of an undergraduate student of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba (AAUA).

In a statement issued on Sunday in Akure by Donald Ojogo, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Akeredolu described the offence as callous, mindless and very disheartening.

He said that soldiers ought to be helpers of the people, especially the vulnerable, in the face of increasing violence and insecurity in the country.

“It should be noted that the Government of Ondo State under Olarotimi Akeredolu will do all in its powers to fight the menace of rape in the state. Rapists or those who wish to engage in it will find Ondo State too hot for such neafarious act, as the government will be firm and decisive on this,” the statement reads.

According to findings made available to schoolworld, Akeredolu’s entreaties followed the arrest of the soldiers who perpetrated the evil act, even as the university management has demanded the dismantling of the military checkpoint in the area.
