Organisation Claims One Out of Five ‘Out-of-School’ Children Globally Is Nigerian

Oxfam, an International Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has made it known that one in five ‘out-of-school’ children in the world comes from Nigeria.

Constant Tchona, Oxfam Country Director, revealed this at the International Youth Day celebration and book launch of a book, ’40 First Jobs’, which was held in Lagos, Nigeria.

The Director, who was represented by Eyong Sunday Eyong, said with the support from the Dutch Ministry and its partner, Poise, his organisation had trained over a thousand youths to acquire soft and technical skills to equip young Nigerians with market relevant skills to enable them get a job or start their own businesses, decring youth unemployment in the country.

Ebele Chukwujama, MD/CEO, Poise, urged the youths to start from the base level and do away with thoughts of starting big, adding that great business men and women did not start from the top.
