Few days after the gruelsome death of Prof. Gideon Okedayo, who was a senior lecturer in the Department of Mathematical Science of the Ondo State University of Science and Technology (OSUSTECH), labour unions in the university on Wedneday called on President Muhammadu Buhari to fish out the abductors of the late lecturer.
Late Okedayo, who was abducted by some unknown gunmen last week on his way to Igara town in Edo State, was reportedly found dead on Sunday some few meters away from where he was abducted.
However, the labour unions of the institution, which included SSANU and NAAT, said the incident happened as a result of the failure of the government to provide adequate security for the people of the country.
The Chairman of the Joint Action Committee (JAC), Temidayo Temola, while speaking on behalf of the unions, blamed security agencies in Edo State for not being proactive enough to rescue the deceased.
“His corpse was said to have been found not too far from where he was abducted thus turning his reunion with family and the university community into a farlorn hope. We, therefore, reiterate that he did not in any way deserve this in a country that he served diligently.
“We charge the Federal Government and security agencies to go after the killers of Pro. Okedayo with a view to bringing them to book. We also call on PMB to immediately overhaul the security apparatus in the country. Nigerians deserve a safer ambiance in their own land,” he stated.
