Policeman Arrested For Beating, Injuring A Female Undergraduate Student of FUTA

The Ondo State Police Command, on Tuesday, disclosed that the command has arrested one of its men, for allegedly battering a female undergraduate student of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).

According to findings made available to schoolworld, some students of the university were said to have had an encounter with some policemen attached to the ‘A’ Division Police Station, Akure, on Sunday, and one of them was allegedly injured by a policeman.

As at the time of filing the report, the identities of the female student and that of the policemen are yet to be revealed.

In a viral videoa, a FUTA student was seen bleeding in one eye and kept saying, “Look at my eye”. The said video was shared by a Twitter user with the handle, @iambabtee, who claimed to be the Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ondo State chapter.

In the video, there were four policemen who appeared disturbed by the plight of the bleeding student.

The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Femi Joseph, when contacted on the issue, confirmed the incident and stated that the policemen who injured the female student had been arrested and would face trial.

“The students were stopped by the policemen on patrol on Sunday night, and when they were asked to open their bag, they refused; that was what caused an argument between them and the policemem, leading to one of the cops to gently pushing one of the younf women. But because she was tipsy, she fell down and got injured.

“In spite of that, as I am speaking with you now, the policemen in question has been arrested and will face trial today. He will definitely be punished,” Joseph stated.

Meanwhile, the institution’s management has condemned the alleged brutalisation of one of its students by a policeman, describing the action of the policeman as uncivilised.
