UI International School Suspends Female Student Over Hijab

The University of Ibadan Internation School, Ibadan has suspended one of its female Muslim students, Ikhlass Olasubomi Badiru for wearinf Hijab in July this year.

The two weeks suspension according to a letter which was signed by the Principal of the school, Phebean Olowe, takes effect from 7th to 18th of October, 2019.

SCHOOLWORLD recalls that the suspended student’s father, Dr. Idris Olabode Badiru, had in July, raised alarm over what he described as molestation and inhuman treatment of his daughter by the Principal of the school, the school accountant and other staff for wearing Hijab on top of her school uniform.

Findings revealed that the school later set up a committee to look into the matter and subsequently came out with a report to suspend the student.

“At the meeting of the Students Disciplinary Committee (SDC) looking into students’ misconduct held on Wednesday 28th of August, 2019, you were found guilty of act of impudence to school authority.

“Your action contravenes the school’s rules and reulations. Therefore, you are to serve two weeks full suspension effective from 7th October to 18yh October, 2019,” part of the letter stated.
