Prof. Idowu Abel Olayinka, Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan (UI), has advocated for the expansion of facilities in universities across the country to boost learning.
According to the Prof. Olayinka, no meaningful learning can take place where facilities and staff are inadequate.
Although the VC is in support of the establishment of more universities, he, however, stressed the need to adequately equip the existing ones.
“Expansion of facilities in the existing institutions is good and having more universities is equally good. I agree that the existing facilities should be expanded. We need more facilities.
“Students and staff will do better if there are facilities. Expansion boils down to funding. Public universities are cheaper than private universities but public schools cannot admit all students seeking admission,” Olayinka stated.
He added by saying that the existing public universities cannot adequately meet the needs of the teeming admission seekers; private universities need to come in to complement government-owned ones, saying standard of such institutions would improve with time.
