The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has released the 2019 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.
Olu Adenipekun, Head of National Office of the examination council, made the disclosure on Friday during a press conference in Lagos.
WAEC ueged candidates to access their results online, using the result checker PIN on their smart identity cards used during the conduct of the examination.
According to reports by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), about 1.6 million candidates from over eighteen thousand recognised secondary schools sat for the 2019 May/June WASSCE in Nigeria.
According to Adenipekun, there is improvement in candidates’ performance in this year’s WASSCE results compared to that of the 2018 results.
He also made it known that results of 180,205 candidates was withheld due to reported cases of examination malpractice.
The HNO told presssmen that exam malpractice cases were being investigated, adding that the outcome of the investigation would be presented to the appropriate committee of the council soonest.
“The committee’s decision will be communicated to the affected candidates through their various schools,” he stated.
Adenipekun also revealed that 1,468,071 candidates who sat for the examination had their results fully processed and released while 122,102 others had a few of their subjects still being processed.
He gave the assurance that efforts were being made to speedily complete the processing so that all the affected candidates would get their results fully processed and released subsequently.
