The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has announced that the examination board will release the results of the 2019 May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in August.
The examination was taken by over 1.6 million candidates in the thirty-six states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to reports made available to schoolworld, the marking of the examination scripts had started in eighty-six marking venue nationwide on Sunday.
At the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) 2019 Policy Meeting, stakeholders expressed concern about when WAEC will release the results before the start of the 2019/2020 admission exercise.
The concern was heightened when JAMB and heads of tertiary institutions agreed that the 2019/2020 admission exercise will start by August 21, 2019.
According to WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, Demianus Ojiojeogu, marking of the answer scripts of the 1.6 million candidates that sat for the examination started on Sunday, 30th of June and will end by Friday, 12th of July, 2019.
“The results of the May/June 2019 WASSEC will be released before the start of admissions exercise. The 60 days this current management set aside to release results of exams between when the last paper is written is still in place,” he stated.
